We’re changing the pace of healthcare.
In 1999, Transcription Solutions began as a medical transcription services
organization. We concentrated on manual medical transcription, serving as an
intermediary between health care organizations and transcriptionists. We were
good at what we did.
But at the same time, we saw the limitations of the business. Creating detailed
manual transcriptions took time, and the number of patients served by our healthcare
clients was increasing. We wanted to speed up the process, to create an accurate
medical transcription system that increased efficiency while lowering costs.
So we began thinking about voice recognition systems. With the right forward-thinking
technology, we believed we could start solving the healthcare industry’s major
problems: cost pressures, aging dictation systems, fewer skilled medical transcriptionists
and slow turnaround time.
That’s when our strategic partnership with M*Modal began.
While Transcription Solutions was a veteran of the healthcare industry, M*Modal was
a leader in the speech recognition field. With Transcription Solutions serving
as the charter member and original beta site, we started working together to
build a proprietary voice recognition system applicable to the healthcare industry.
The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Radiology department became M*Modal’s
testing ground. As one of the premier academic medical centers in the nation,
its multiple imaging centers performed more than 1.4 million radiology studies
per year. If the technology worked here, it could work anywhere.
We embraced this technology as it moved into the field of general medicine, and
as we did, our list of happy clients grew quickly. Transcriptionists were less
stressed, doctors were receiving their reports back quickly, and administrators
started noticing big cost benefits. And we were happy because we’d done exactly
what we set out to do—help our clients.
